Volunteer Opportunities offer a variety of ways for community members to give back and make a difference. From supporting local agencies to participating in service projects, volunteers play a vital role in enhancing the well-being of the community and embodying the Jewish value of tikkun olam (repairing the world).

 

 

The Jewish Community Relations Council works to build and maintain relationships within the Jewish community and with other religious, ethnic, and civic groups. Through advocacy, education, and dialogue, the JCRC promotes mutual understanding and addresses critical issues affecting the Jewish community and society at large.

 

Connect with other young Jews in their mid-20s, 30s, and 40s, from all backgrounds and affiliations. UJF’s NextGen program is dedicated to building a better, stronger Jewish community in Stamford, New Canaan, Darien, Israel, and throughout the world with social events, volunteer programs, educational activities, and philanthropy.

 

Help ensure our community’s Jewish tomorrows with Life & Legacy, an initiative spearheaded and funded by UJF. With support from the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, UJF promotes legacy giving with local agencies and synagogues across Stamford, New Canaan, and Darien.

 

PJ Library provides free Jewish children's books and music to families raising Jewish children. This program fosters a love of Jewish learning and traditions from a young age, creating opportunities for family bonding and Jewish engagement.

 

Whatever your age or interest, there’s a place for you at UJF thanks to Affinity Groups. Groups such as Rothschild Society, Cardozo Society, Maimonides Society, Women’s Philanthropy, and Chapter Two all connect community members with similar personal or professional interests, or who are in a similar life stage. 

 

The Lilly Reiser Scholarship, established by the United Jewish Federation, offers $10,000 college scholarships each year starting in 2024. This scholarship supports nine Jewish students from Connecticut and New York, with awards based on both need and merit. The program reflects UJF’s commitment to making a meaningful impact through education.

 

One Happy Camper offers grants to families with children attending Jewish overnight camps for the first time. By making camp more accessible, this program enriches children's Jewish experiences, fosters lifelong friendships, and strengthens their connection to the Jewish community.

 

The Kuriansky Teen Tzedakah Corps, supported by the Kuriansky Family Foundation, is a leadership program aimed at training the next generation of Jewish leaders and philanthropists in Fairfield County. Through monthly meetings, teens gain hands-on experience in leadership and Jewish values related to philanthropy, culminating in a full grant allocation process.

 

The Behrend Institute for Leadership offers leadership training and development programs for individuals involved in Jewish communal life. This institute empowers participants with the skills and knowledge needed to become effective leaders and drive positive change within the Jewish community.

 

 

Aaron's Place is a dedicated space at Stamford Hospital providing Jewish patients and their families with a comforting refuge during difficult times. Stocked with kosher snacks, prayer books, and Shabbat essentials, this room offers a welcoming environment for reflection, rest, and connection while caring for a loved one.

 

 

Reading Partners pairs volunteer tutors with elementary school students to help improve their reading skills. This program supports children's literacy development and academic success, making a positive impact on their educational journey.

 

 

Dignity Grows provides essential personal and menstrual hygiene products to women, girls, and individuals assigned female at birth, helping them continue their daily lives without interruption due to lack of resources. Volunteers meet monthly to pack and distribute Dignity Grows Totes, supporting those in need and embodying Jewish values of Tzedakah and Tikkun Olam.

 

3 SQUARE addresses child hunger by providing weekend food bags to elementary school-aged children in Fairfield County who rely on school meals during the week. Volunteers shop, pack, and deliver these discreet food bags to schools, ensuring that children in need have enough to eat over the weekend.
