For the people of Fairfield County, Federation is at the forefront of celebrating, advocating, and building meaningful relationships with people in Israel and around the world. When Jewish communities are threatened, in Israel or anywhere around the globe, we are prepared to immediately come to their aid.
Amid rising antisemitism, Jews around the world know they can rely on the unwavering support of their suporters in Stamford, New Canaan, and Darien. Because no matter where we live, we’re all part of one global Jewish family.
Here are just some of the ways that Federation helps bring Israel to Fairfield County, and Fairfield country to the world:
Thanks to the grassroots efforts of a small group of local volunteers, a Digital Media Campaign was organized in December 2023 to help raise awareness about the rise of antisemitism around the world following October 7.
Sponsored by United Jewish Federation of Stamford, New Canaan, and Darien, the initiative features a series of billboards located on I-95 in Connecticut that display rotating ads which promote pro-Jewish and pro- Israel messages.The billboard ads have received millions of impressions since circulation started and the views have extended well beyond Stamford. Both the Times of Israel and the Jewish Federation of North America have written community spotlight articles recognizing how a small group of individuals came together to make a big difference. This initiative has been driven 100% by dedicated volunteers.
Support the Digital Campaign Against Antisemitism
Community Shaliach (Israeli Emissary)
A shaliach is an emissary, brought to our community by Federation and a partnership with the Jewish Agency for Israel and Federation's Israel and Overseas Committee, to strengthen our Fairfield County’s connection to Israel and the Israeli people. The shaliach provides educational programming that speaks to the entire Jewish community and serves as an advocate for Israel within both the Jewish and broader community.
The Afula-Gilboa Region
United Jewish Federation partners with 10 Federations in our region to form SNEC: the Southern New England Consortium. Together, we invest in the Afula-Gilboa region in Northern Israel, creating a significant impact in the lives of children, women, and at-risk young people. This is done through Partnership2Gether, a platform of the Jewish Agency for Israel, which connects diaspora Jews with communities in Israel, creating lasting connections while providing them with financial help.
Ukraine Relief
We were all shocked and horrified by Russia’s assault on Ukraine in February 2022. But we were also moved to action.
Federation is always ready to react when there are Jews in need around the world. Thanks to the infrastructure we keep in place at all times, we moved to action and set up a campaign that raised $400,000 from our community, sending help to our brothers and sisters in need.
With the help of our generous contributors, we were able to charter 3 flights to transport Ukrainian refugees to begin new lives in Israel. We also provided additional funds to support the humanitarian efforts taking place in neighboring countries around eastern Europe.
