When we moved to Stamford seven years ago, we were immediately drawn in by the warmth of the community, and no organization reflected that more than Young Israel. We loved that everyone knew each other, that it was small enough for us to feel we could volunteer and help make an impact, and of course, that it came with a good dairy kiddush. Becoming members was a priority, but as a young family with mounting financial obligations, even that felt like a stretch.
Life & Legacy gave us the opportunity at a time when we couldn't give financially, to show our young family’s support to the shul where our kids would grow up and our family would find our spiritual home. But our gift will not go towards our children's generation, it will support those who follow in their footsteps. It is not about supporting our needs now, it is about ensuring that the community we know and love will be sustained long after us.
Supporting community organizations doesn’t just benefit the recipient, it enriches the giver and deepens the warmth and interconnectedness that makes Stamford so special. Many young families can’t give in traditional ways, but Life & Legacy empowers families of all backgrounds, regardless of wealth, age, or status to demonstrate their commitment to the institutions that strengthen us all.
Now, as a member of the Young Israel board, Toby sees firsthand how vital long-term financial planning is. The support from Life & Legacy, both through recruitment milestones and the realization of donors’ gifts, helps Young Israel plan responsibly for the future and continue to thrive. We are indebted to those who came before us and built the institutions we cherish. Our hope is to do the same for the next generation, ensuring the continued success of the Stamford Jewish community.
