Rita, the daughter of Holocaust survivors, and I came to Stamford more than 50 years ago. We came with the experience of the Six Day War seared into our hearts and minds. We immediately sought out and became active in what was then UJA, the precursor of the Federation.
We were deeply involved in the Stamford effort in support of Israel in the Suez War of 1973, because we understood that Israel’s fate was our fate. During that harrowing week, I even walked out of my office more than once to raise money for Israel.
We make our Life & Legacy commitment to United Jewish Federation because we know that we must demonstrate to our children, our grandchildren, and to their respective generations that, as President Kennedy once said, “Each generation must fight for its own liberty.” This applies to Israel and to the Jewish people wherever we are, and whatever we can do to continue this sacred obligation into the future and to never forget what has happened in the past.
We believe that’s what our Federation’s Life & Legacy program is all about.
