United Jewish Federation is happy to welcome guest speakers, Gadeer Kamal-Mreeh and Dr. Avner Shavit, to Stamford on Sunday, March 31 at Temple Beth El at 6:00 pm for a screening and discussion about the Israeli film, Cinema Sabaya.
Released in 2021, Cinema Sabaya captures the personal stories that transpire from a video workshop for Arab and Jewish women in a small town in northern Israel. Each member is given a hand-held device and assignments from their lives beyond the classroom, ultimately revealing their struggles, concerns, and hopes as women in the world today.
The event is in partnership with Stamford JCC and TBE and will include the film, a Q&A with Gadeer and Avner, and a light taste from the Middle East made my community members. The first Druze emissary and the first Druze woman to become a Member of the Knesset, Gadeer Kamal-Mreeh’s own story is truly inspiring, as she recently shared at UJF's Annual Meeting last December. She will share the stage with Dr. Avner Shavit, who is one of the most prominent film critics in Israel and has been covering the local and international scene for the last two decades.
