United Jewish Federation (UJF) is thrilled to be spearheading a community-wide initiative—created by the community, for the community. Beginning the week of December 8, there will be a variety of opportunities to celebrate Shabbat, with highlights over Shabbat, December 12–13.
“Shabbat is a unifying concept and day which occurs weekly and while celebrated in many unique and individual ways, it gives us the opportunity to find a common theme to celebrate our being Jewish”, shared Beverly Stein, UJF’s President.
Thanks to UJF grants, local organizations will be hosting Shabbat experiences, including cooking workshops, young family programs, scholars-in-residence, musical Shabbat services, and more. For those who prefer to celebrate with family and friends at home, Shabbat-to-go kits will be available for pick-up at the UJF offices (2009 Summer Street, Stamford) on Friday, December 12, with advanced registration.
In these challenging times, coming together as one community, without barriers, matters more than ever. This initiative offers a chance to share Shabbat in many different ways while finding joy, strength, and belonging as part of something bigger.
On Saturday night, December 13, from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm, the whole community will unite for a special post-Shabbat celebration, including Havdalah at Co-Create, a GE Appliances Micro Mfg. Plant and Showroom in Stamford. The evening will feature activities for all ages-creative crafts and fun for children, a welcoming adult space, and an unforgettable live performance by The Shuk. The Shuk is an internationally renowned Jewish and Israeli music group known for their joyful, high-energy concerts that bring audiences together through music and culture. Their performances have inspired communities around the world, making every event a true celebration of connection and tradition.
Dedicated committees, with members from all synagogues and Jewish agencies throughout the community, are working hard to create a fabulous experience for all.
