An Evening of Music and History

The community is invited to attend a special cultural program featuring Zalmen Mlotek, internationally renowned conductor, pianist, and authority on Yiddish folk and theater music. Mlotek will present “The History of the American Yiddish Theater” on Thursday, November 6, at 7:00 pm at Temple Beth El in Stamford.

Zalmen Mlotek is Artistic Director of the award-winning National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene, the longest continuously producing Yiddish theater company in the world. A leading figure in Jewish music and theater, he has combined his extensive musical education with a lifelong dedication to Yiddish culture to bring this treasured tradition to new audiences worldwide.

Mlotek has previously performed in Stamford at Temple Beth El and Congregation Agudath Sholom and maintains close personal and family ties with members of the community. This program will be presented in tribute to Dr. Hesh Romanowitz z”l and his parents, Eva and Abe Romanowitz z”l, all devoted supporters of Yiddish language and theater.

The evening will also feature a guest performance by Cantor Katie Kaplan of Temple Beth El. A light reception will follow the program.

This event is free of charge and open to the public. The evening will be co-sponsored by The Bennett Center for Judaic Studies at Fairfield University, United Jewish Federation of Stamford, New Canaan and Darien, UJA-JCC Greenwich, Congregation Agudath Sholom, Jewish Historical Society of Fairfield County, Temple Beth El, Temple Sholom, Temple Sinai, and Young Israel of Stamford.
