Shabbat Together will be held on a regular basis at Atria Senior Living in Stamford. Children and their parents will come to the Atria on Thursday afternoons or Friday mornings (exact day/time TBD) to participate with seniors in a welcome Shabbat program. Young families will help create an intergenerational community around kabbalat shabbat and Jewish music. Rabbi Daniel Cohen of Congregation Agudath Sholom and volunteers will lead participants in welcoming shabbat with Jewish music/liturgy and inspirational stories.
One of greatest struggles in contemporary life is that of isolation. An example of this is the lack of integration across generations, with children and seniors having very limited exposure to each other. Shabbat Together suggests that young and old were created with complementary strengths and we deeply need each other: the old need the young for their joie de vivre, while the young need the old for their wisdom and perspective. A musical “Welcome Shabbat” program will provide an opportunity to build an intergenerational community, capitalizing on the power of music and shabbat to bind Jews of all ages. Musical Instruments and challah will be provided.
UJF is marketing and fundraising for this program and 12% has been added to program costs to partially cover these efforts. Please note, only UJF is fundraising for this program.
