Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) support can be extremely helpful for individuals who identify as part of the LGBT community.

With the launch of the B'Yachad program, Schoke JFS proposes to provide a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for tween and teenage members of the LGBT community. SJFS hopes to create a place where Judaism, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression can intersect to be embraced, affirmed and celebrated.  When someone is exploring sexual orientation or gender identity, the experience can be liberating, empowering, and at the same time it can sometimes be frightening. Some of those difficult feelings can range from isolation, confusion and anxiety to depression and loneliness.  But they are not alone; others have taken the same path and found acceptance and peace. SJFS can help them find that path.

The B'Yachad LGBT support program can help someone dealing with issues anywhere along a continuum- from the point where they are questioning their sexuality, exploring sexual orientation or gender identity, through dealing with the challenges of possibly coming out at home or school and/or struggling with LGBT and peer relationship issues. The support group will meet on a monthly basis, continuing through the summer based on participants' availability and interest, and will adhere to the public school calendar. The group will be supervised and facilitated by a Licensed Professional Counselor and regularly include invited guests from collaborating partners, KESHET, TCC, ESHEL, PFLAG, WESTCHESTER MOSAIC GROUP.
