The dead of winter is a great time to virtually escape to the beach, Bagel Beach. On Sunday, February 21st, 2021 @ 2 PM Chanie Wilhelm founder of The Bagel Beach Association will discuss the history and memories of the beach. Bagel Beach refers to the beaches around Woodmont in Milford Connecticut. It grew in popularity in the 20s and 30s as a summer destination for New York Jews renting cottages for the season and New Haven Jews taking the daily trolley there. Many shoreline beaches prohibited Jews including signs that read “No dogs or Jews allowed” but the Woodmont area allowed them. A native of New Haven Chanie moved to Milford 13 years ago when she first learned about Bagel Beach. Since then she has interviewed dozens of people in order to preserve their recollections by creating the Bagel Beach Historical Association. A few of the interviewees will be on this Zoom. This presentation might bring back your own wonderful beach or summer memories of your childhood too.
