Second Annual Freedom Fighter Lecture at Selah features Rachel Light. Light was an agunah (literally a “chained woman” who cannot remarry under Jewish law because her husband refused to grant her a religious divorce) who was able to reclaim her religious status by successfully suing her ex-husband in U.S. secular courts when he refused to grant her a get (a Jewish divorce decree), based on their halachic (Jewish law) prenuptial agreement. Through our pre-Passover Freedom Fighter Series, we learn more about people who have overcome modern oppression so that we can best fulfill the mitzvah in our haggadah: “In every generation, a person is obligated to see himself or herself as though he or she came forth from Egypt.” Bartlett Arboretum in Stamford. Brunch will be served. Register on our website:www.selahfairfieldcounty.org.
