Last month, " and all the days were purple" by composer Alex Weiser was named a 2020 Finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in music making it the first piece of music engaging with Yiddish to be acknowledged by the Pulitzer Prize. Weiser discovered Yiddish through the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research where he studied Yiddish, curates concerts of Jewish music, and has been Director of Public Programs since 2016. In this presentation Weiser will tell the story of his journey with Yiddish and Yiddish music, sharing examples of his composition and contextualizing his work within Yiddish culture historically and today.
